This is an historical novel set in the first half of the twentieth century. The hero, for that is what he truly is, is a very young RAF fighter pilot who takes his chance with fate on almost a daily basis from May to October 1940 and survives. It is his survival which is at the root of his problem, he cannot expunge the guilt of it. Neither can he explain it even to those close to him.
