In 1944, as war looms in Nazi-allied Hungary, eight-year-old Tibor dreams of freedom in the Jewish homeland. His father and two brothers have been recruited into forced labour units, one of his sisters goes into hiding and the other passes as a Christian, while Tibor joins a Zionist youth organization, which rescues his mother from the Budapest ghetto. Tibor acts as a courier for the group and also helps in the office, duplicating Schutz-passes created by Raoul Wallenberg to save Jews by placing them under Swedish protection. When World War II ends, communism arises as a new threat, but this time Tibor is able to follow his dream of freedom to Israel and later to Canada. | Unsung Heroes by Ted Benyovits, Paperback | Indigo Chapters
