These two Michigan towns are separated by more than the St. Joseph River. St. Joseph is prosperous and mostly white; Benton Harbour is poor and 92 per cent black. When the body of a young black boy is found in the river, old wounds open up between the two communities. The ensuing investigation opens up all of the communities’ fears and suspicions about each other.
