An experienced horsewoman, Frances Wilbur learned about wolves when she helped a neighbor bottle-feed wolf pups in 1977. Born in Minnesota, mother of five and grandmother of twelve, Wilbur now lives in California. She teaches riding skills and for many years was the director of a resident horsemanship camp. She also has taught English and French and directed the Office of Volunteers for the Pasadena Red Cross. During World War II, she was a member of the Signal Intelligence Service cryptanalysis team that worked on the famed Voynich Manuscript. She later served on the sub-committee of meteorology to the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
