Foracomparison, apull-typeschedul ingstrategyisillustratedwithsomerecentresultsfortheJust-In-Timeand multilevelschedulingofflexibleassemblylines. Numericalexamplesprovide thereaderwithpossibleapplicationsofthevariousmodellingandsolution approachespresented. InChapter7simultaneousschedulingofassemblystationsandautomated guidedvehiclesisdiscussedforageneralFASandtwodifferentsolutionap proachesarepresented:(i)amulti-levelapproach, inwhichfirstmachine loadingandassemblyroutingproblemissolvedandthen, giventaskassign mentsandassemblyroutesselected, detailedmachineandvehicleschedules aredetermined;(ii)asingle-levelapproach, inwhichmachineandvehicle schedulesaredirectlydeterminedwithnoinitialloadingandroutingdeci sionsrequired.
