They were born within a day of one another, of Capote women who were distant cousins. The clan had broken winter camp near the rust-red sandstone pinnacles of South-Central Colorado. It was on the trail to the summer hunting grounds where game abounded and where the heat pushed back the heavy snows and biting cold of winter. The migration of the people had occurred for many generations, and countless stories of the history of the Capote people were shared with the young time and time again.
