Without any question, this is Vladimir Nabokov's best-known work and it's easy to see why. Although Lolita is the kind of book you want to read with your eyes half shut in order to filter out some of the discomfort, you still have to read it. Reading the agonizing story of Humbert Humbert's obsession with Dolores Haze, a girl barely old enough to take the school bus on her own, is like watching a car crash in slow motion.
