About the Grace Girls SeriesThe Grace Girls Series was born of a small daily creative project - drawing a whimsical girl in a restricted time frame, with limited supplies, every day. As I believe is the case for all creative processes, this activity soothed the soul and allowed the inner most thoughts to surface. Often thoughts I didn't even know I had. At the time, I was supporting a very dear friend through her treatment for breast cancer. I found comfort and solace in these little girls during a difficult time in my life. Eventually I began to realise that these little girls bore messages. The first girl to speak to me was Grace, who appears on the cover of the first book in the series (Finding Grace). Her message was about acceptance. She seemed to embody this intangible quality we call grace. Each day as I drew another little girl I thought about the meaning of grace. I began to collect quotations on grace and write some of my own reflections. Before long I had gathered my thoughts on the subject of grace and how finding it can smooth our path through life. For it is only when we find the grace to accept what we do not have that we can begin to discover the joy in what we do have. Then joy became the main focus of my thoughts. I found myself drawing girls with more movement and energy. With the passing of my friend, choosing joyful thoughts required some effort. I'm sure this is something we all experience at one point or another in our lives. It felt important to explore this idea of taking conscious steps towards happiness. To empower oneself to choose joy, regardless of circumstances. The second volume in the series (Choosing Joy) is designed to inspire you to choose to live your most joyful life. Perhaps it is the sort of coffee table book that you will be able to turn to on occasion and find something to uplift or inspire you. It need not be read cover to cover. Rather, it offers little pieces of encouragement, whichever page you happen to open. It is my hope that the joy quotes, illustrations and reflections guide us on the path to happiness.
