A young African American misfit named Capricorn is misunderstood by her teacher, friends, and family due to her eccentric personality. She later finds out how distinctive she is when she finds the place where she belongs. Capricorn expresses fear and resentment when she learns that her parents must separate from their marriage to live in peace. Capricorn and her baby sister September resides with their grandparents for some time until their mother's situation improves.
