Kenneth McLennan from the Strathconon (Contin parish, Scotland) arrived in Moreton Bay (now Brisbane) on the "William Miles" with his cousin Donald in 1855. He would go on to become Mayor of Windsor near Brisbane. His sister Anne arrived in Australia in 1860 with her cousin John (brother of Donald). They all went on to found large families of descendants described in this book. Kenneth married Ann Grant in Queensland in 1855. They had the following children: Gregory Grant McLennan, Mary McLennan, William John McLennan, Janet Ann McLennan, Kenneth Broughan McLennan, Helen Flora Isabella McLennan, Christina Elsie McLennan, Elizabeth Grant McLennan, Finlay McLennan, and Donald Coutts McLennan. The legendary stories of the McLennan Clan, orally passed down the generations by the ancient Clan Sages, propose that the early members of the Clan were first known in Ross-Shire in the districts of Glenelg and Kintail in the 13th century. In the early years, as tenants, they loyally supported their over-lords who varied over the centuries, through to the powerful MacDonald and MacKenzie chiefs. By a series of successful marriages in the late 13th century, the MacKenzie chief of the day was Constable of Eilean Donnan Castle. The Australian content begins with a brief resume of the early years of settlement of Moreton Bay District, later to become Queensland. The first members of our McLennan family arrived in Brisbane when Brisbane was a fledgling outpost of civilisation and these pioneering Scotsmen and women helped to pave the way for our future prosperity. The book includes maps, illustrations and index.
