A tool for piano teachers and their students, written by a celebrated concert pianist and highly regarded university teacher, covering areas of piano technique which he feels are often not given sufficient attention. The book contains many musical examples to use in practicing these techniques. The Chapters were originally written as articles in the American periodical 'Clavier Companion' and its predecessor 'Clavier' and in the Australian 'Music Teacher International' magazine. Now compiled into this handy guide, the chapters deal with the following areas of keyboard technique: Basical Pedaling Techniques; Equal Training for Both Hands; Early Lessons in Phrasing; How Soft is Soft?; Keyboard Stiffness; Cross-Rhythms; and Developing Technique into Musicality. All chapters except the last include a good number of short musical examples for the student to work on in these various areas of technique. The book is A4 page size so as to make the examples easily readable if the book is put onto the piano music-rest. The British-born author had a very long career as a highly respected teacher in Australia, latterly at The University of Melbourne, and also as a very successful concert pianist. | Neglected Areas of Piano Teaching by Trevor Barnard, Paperback | Indigo Chapters
