For many years, Christianity and the Chinese government have led an uneasy co-existence. During the Cultural Revolution of the 60’s and 70’s religion was officially banned, and even today government authorities exert tight control over faith in the world’s most populous nation. In God is Red, Liao Yiwu profiles Chinese Christians as they fight to practice their religion in a hostile environment, providing a rare glimpse into the phenomenal growth of the Church in this officially atheistic state. From the years of persecution, torture and murder under Mao Tse-Tung to the vibrant communities that exist today, Liao uncovers a side of China that few Westerners know. God is Red puts a human face on the ongoing battle faced by Chinese Christians as they seek to practice their faith. Liao Yiwu is an author, reporter, musician, and poet. He was born in Sichuan, China, and has been imprisoned for his criticism of the Chinese government. He is the author of The Corpse Walker: Real Life Stories, China From the Bottom Up. In 2010 he was allowed to travel outside China for the first time. Wen Huang is a writer, journalist and translator whose articles and translations have been published in The Wall Street Journal Asia, The Chicago Tribune, The Paris Review, Asia Literary Review, and The Christian Science Monitor. Wen was born in China and currently lives in Chicago. | God Is Red by Liao Yiwu, Paperback | Indigo Chapters
