Students examine volunteering activities and the role volunteers play in their community. They also explore how an individual's personal qualities and interests can inspire their volunteering activities. The goal of the theme is to encourage the willingness to be socially responsible andcontribute to the community. Students read about Canadian volunteering Web sites as well as remarkable celebrity and Canadian teenaged volunteers. Final Task: Students work individually or in small groups to plan and complete a volunteering project. They keep a log book of their activities and write an article about their volunteering experience. Students then publish a class electronic newsletter about their volunteering activities. Age appropriate, full-colour and motivating themes, containing opportunities for speaking, listening, reading, and writing, presented in a variety of formats. Also included are models of final tasks, video clips, learning strategy boxes, and examination of grammar in Quete-language boxes.
